2012 Transit of Venus

Transit of Venus

Interesting story behind the 1769 transit; Captain James Cook was dispatched on the HMS Endveavour to Tahiti to observe the 1769 Venus eclipse. After he recorded the successful observation he was instructed to search for the “Great South Land”, he “discovered” the east coast of Austalia and claimed the continent for the City of London in 1770.

Venus will pass accross the face of the sun on Woden’s Day 6th June.
